We're Number 1, Part SURPRISE

I never followed up on the whole torch relay thing. I've been that disappointed over the result.

Of course I don't blame anyone for their actions. People were behaving according to their prescribed social roles.

I am not surprised that the city did something different. I just wanted them not to. I hoped they wouldn't. But they did, and it's over now.

Link me to a good article to describe it? We in Japan read only what appears on cnn.com and news.bbc.co.uk

Ah, the old switcharoo. I found it interesting that they had so many backup torches. ... for some reason I'd figured that it was supposed to be one continuous flame that never went out--that you could trace the continual chemical reaction back to some dignified lighting ceremony (commemorative zippo?) or perhaps even previous olympic games.. .. guess that's still possible--twin torches?
